Day 01 :

Begin Your Inca Trail Adventure

Your adventure with Anfeli Adventures begins early in the morning with a hotel pickup around 4:30 a.m. We will drive through the Sacred Valley to our first stop, where you will have time to buy any last-minute essentials such as water, snacks, or rain gear.
We then continue to Piscacucho (KM 82), the official starting point of the Inca Trail, where we complete the registration process. Please remember to bring your original passport, as it is required to enter the trail.
From here, your journey truly begins. You will follow the same ancient paths once used by the Incas on their sacred route to Machu Picchu. The trail starts at 2,720 m (8,923 ft), crossing the Vilcanota River before gradually ascending through beautiful cloud forest landscapes.
Along the way, you will enjoy stunning views of important Inca sites such as Llactapata and Huillca Raccay, as well as breathtaking mountain scenery including the impressive Verónica Mountain (W'akay Willca).
After a rewarding day of hiking through the Andean valley, we arrive at our first campsite near Wayllabamba, located at approximately 3,300 m (10,826 ft). Here you will enjoy a well-deserved dinner and rest surrounded by nature.
Important: Campsites are assigned by the Peruvian Ministry of Culture and depend on availability.

Day 02 :

Into the Sacred Mountains

The second day of your journey with Anfeli Adventures is the most challenging—but also the most rewarding. We start early around 5:30 a.m. with a nutritious breakfast prepared by our team, giving you the energy needed for the day ahead.
Today, you will hike along one of the most sacred sections of the Inca Trail, ascending into the heart of the Andes. After several hours of trekking, you will reach the highest point of the trail: Warmiwañusca Pass (Dead Woman’s Pass) at 4,200 m (13,779 ft).
Reaching this summit is a true achievement. The altitude and steep climb make it demanding, but our experienced guides will support you every step of the way. Once at the top, you will enjoy breathtaking panoramic views and a well-deserved rest—an unforgettable moment on your journey to Machu Picchu.
Afterward, we descend to Pacaymayu Valley (3,550 m / 11,646 ft) for lunch. Along the way, you may spot hummingbirds and other native wildlife, as well as unique high-altitude plants such as Polylepis trees.
In the afternoon, we continue with another ascent toward Runkurakay Pass (4,000 m) before reaching our second campsite at Chaquicocha (3,600 m). Surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery, you will enjoy dinner and a well-earned rest after an incredible day of adventure.

Day 03 :

Into the Cloud Forest – Wiñay Wayna

After another energizing breakfast, we begin the day with a gentle uphill hike toward our first highlight: Phuyupatamarca, known as “The City Above the Clouds”, located at 3,680 m (12,073 ft). This beautiful Inca site features impressive terraces and ceremonial water fountains that still flow during the rainy season. From here, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks such as Salkantay and Verónica.
Continuing along the trail, we descend a remarkable series of original Inca stone steps—over 1,000 in total. While less physically demanding than the previous day, this section requires careful footing, especially on the way down.
We then enter the cloud forest, where lush vegetation surrounds the trail, and reach the impressive agricultural terraces of Intipata, one of the lesser-known but stunning Inca sites along the route.
After approximately 4 to 5 hours of hiking, we arrive at our third campsite in Wiñay Wayna (2,680 m / 8,792 ft). After lunch and some well-deserved rest, we explore this extraordinary archaeological site, famous for its beautiful terraces and finely crafted Inca structures. The presence of multiple water fountains suggests it was an important ceremonial site, possibly used by travelers preparing for their arrival at Machu Picchu.
As the day comes to an end, we enjoy our final dinner on the trail and rest, knowing that the next day we will reach the highlight of our journey: Machu Picchu.

Day 04 :

Arrival at Machu Picchu – The Grand Finale

The most anticipated day has arrived. After an early wake-up and a light breakfast, we begin our final hike toward the legendary Sun Gate (Inti Punku) at 2,730 m (8,792 ft).
As the sun rises, you will witness your first breathtaking view of Machu Picchu, emerging from the mist and surrounded by majestic mountains—an unforgettable moment that marks the culmination of your Inca Trail journey.
We then descend toward the citadel, where you will have the opportunity to take the classic panoramic photos and fully appreciate the beauty of this world wonder.
Your guide will lead a detailed tour of Machu Picchu, sharing its history, architecture, and the mysteries of the Inca civilization. After the guided visit, you will have free time to explore on your own or, if previously booked, hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for even more spectacular views.
Later, we take the bus down to Aguas Calientes, where you can relax and enjoy lunch (not included). Finally, we return by train to Cusco, closing this incredible adventure with memories that will last a lifetime.

1. What should I pack for the Inca Trail?

Packing light is essential for the Inca Trail. Your main luggage will stay in your hotel in Cusco, and you will divide your belongings into two: a duffel bag and a daypack.

The duffel bag is provided by our team and carried by professional porters. You are allowed to pack up to 3.5 kg (7.7 lbs), due to weight regulations along the trail. This bag should include everything you need for the 4-day trek.

Your daypack should contain all the items you will need during the hike, such as: a camera, reusable water bottles, sunscreen, insect repellent, rain jacket or poncho, hat, snacks, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, a small first aid kit, cash, and your passport. Make sure your backpack is comfortable and waterproof, as you will carry it for several hours each day.

2. What is the best time to hike the Inca Trail?

The best time to hike the Inca Trail is during the dry season, especially from April to May and September to October. These months offer good weather conditions with fewer crowds.

The peak season runs from June to August. During this time, the weather is also dry and ideal for hiking, but the trail is much more crowded and permits sell out very quickly. Advance booking is highly recommended, often months ahead.

3. How high is the Inca Trail?

The Inca Trail crosses different altitudes through the Andes Mountains. The highest point is Dead Woman’s Pass (Warmi Wañusqa), which reaches approximately 4,215 meters (13,829 feet).

The lowest point is Machu Picchu, located at about 2,430 meters (7,972 feet). Due to these changes in elevation, the trek includes several ascents and descents, making it both challenging and rewarding.

4. How can I prevent altitude sickness?

Altitude sickness is common in Peru due to the high elevations. To reduce the risk, it is recommended to arrive at least 1–2 days before your trek to allow your body to acclimatize.

Stay well hydrated, eat light meals, avoid alcohol, and take it easy during your first days in Cusco. You may also consult your doctor before traveling about medications such as Diamox. Coca tea is a traditional and natural option that can also help relieve symptoms.

5. Is it possible to hike to Machu Picchu in one day?

Yes, it is possible through the Short Inca Trail (2-day program). The first day includes a full-day hike of approximately 11–12 km (7–8 miles), leading you to Machu Picchu in the afternoon.

However, due to distances and logistics, it is not possible to return to Cusco on the same day. You will spend the night in Aguas Calientes and visit Machu Picchu again the following day.

6. What is the best trek to Machu Picchu?

There are several trekking options to reach Machu Picchu, and the best one depends on your preferences and travel style.

Inca Trail: The most famous route, combining history, archaeological sites, and direct access to Machu Picchu.
Salkantay Trek: Known for its diverse landscapes, from snow-capped mountains to cloud forests.

The Salkantay Trek is better suited for those seeking adventure, remote landscapes, and fewer crowds. It also reaches higher altitudes and covers a longer distance.

8. How do I acclimatize in Cusco?

Cusco is located at 3,399 meters (11,152 feet), so acclimatization is very important before starting any trek.

Take it easy during your first 24–48 hours, rest well, stay hydrated, and eat light meals. Avoid alcohol and strenuous activities during this time. Coca tea and oxygen can also help reduce symptoms of altitude sickness.
